The "Smoky and the Bandit" cars weren't fast at all, especially when...


...compared to the LS powered Camaros starting around the turn of the century. Those are amazing engines. The 6.6 engines were made to get good fuel economy, not for power. The gas crisis years were very dark days for American muscle cars. I don't think we broke out of it until the C4 Vette with the LT1 engine. Next came the LS1, and the rest is history. We've been living in a golden age of muscle and efficiency.
